Isle of Man
To start with our visit to Isle of Man back in May, 4 of us including John Stockall, Dave Williams, Mark Wakelam and Henry Adams made the trip to marshal on the 'Bet-on Aces' National Rally, our marshalling duties required us to cover 6 special stages in all, 2 on Friday night, in very wet weather conditions and 4 stages on Saturday, weather much better. We were out there also to give support to other club members who were actually competing in the rally- including Paul Clackett, Scott Dance, Jody Bowcott and David Millard.
We had a great time on the Island and were kept very busy when out marshalling, on the 2 Friday night stages which ran late into the night and with very wet conditions, it made life a little difficult for us, because we were on a chicane, so we had to keep moving large straw bales back into position after competitors had dislodged them, all this in the rain and by torch light and in between competing cars, great fun.
Saturday saw us marshal 4 special stages and with better weather all went very well, we had a good time.
The competitive members of the club, did not have such a good time, Paul Clackett had troubles on the Friday night special stages and on Saturday morning the engine in his Subaru was overheating so Paul eventually retired from the event, he was, to say the least very disappointed.
Jody and Dave managed to finish the event but were not with problems which dropped them down the leaderboard, but that's rallying.
