Motor Club Update Feb 2018

It’s hoped that for 2018 we can keep the membership updated via a bimonthly newsletter.
Informing you of any events including, rallies, and classic tours, car shows that the club may be involved with during the coming year.
Firstly looking back at 2017 this was a busy year for the marshalling section giving their support to some 12 rallies including, Cambrian, 7 Valley, Nicky Grist, Harry Flatters, Mewla, Woodpecker, Rally Isle of Man and Wales Rally GB.
The Rally Isle of Man in September was probably our most challenging events of the year for the marshals and I think without their support some of the stages on the event possibly may not have run?
Our role on rallies is quite varied, from operating end of special stage flying finish and stop, stage starts, DSO (Driver Standards Observers) & general marshalling. The club marshals are registered with the MSA as required from the start of 2017. As marshals we attend MSA training days when necessary, something no doubt we will be doing in 2018.
The Welsh Hill Climb held in October 2017, was a particularly good day as some members marshalled one of the sections held at Ralph’s Cider Farm in New Radnor. The team was fed and watered and received a
complimentary flagon of cider for their marshalling. Hopefully this year it will attract greater support.
Other events we were involved within 2017
It was not just about rallying; the more social side of things saw members attending several cars shows, classic car tours, and a visit to ‘Rally Open’ day at Caste Combe.
Two members entered the Welsh Classic Car tour a two-day event starting near Llandovery and covering some classic Welsh roads, excellent event. Hopefully, the members in question have booked this event for 2018.
Two club members gave their support for 3 days on the ‘Royal Enfield’ stand at the Classic car show NEC. They did such a good job that their support may be required in 2018.
Paul Clackett, Club Treasurer and Competitions Secretary, returned to circuit racing during for a short time in 2017, something Paul enjoys and has had good results.
However, for 2018 Paul will be making a return to rallying competing in a Subaru. It should be a busy season for Paul as he is committed to 6/7 rallies of which 3 are on the Isle of Man. It is expected that some of the club marshals will be out on the same events as Paul or even as part of his support team??
Also, two associate members Jody Bowcott(Paul’s son in law) and David Millard will be out on the same events as Paul.
They have both been accepted as entries to the Corbeau Seats Rally 2018 being the first event run under the new Closed Road Motorsport legislation in the UK….Exciting times ahead… Jeff Reynolds and Gary Jecketts are also to return to rallying in their Subaru after a long break away from competition, they have yet to select the events in which they want to compete.
There is also a motorcycle section, which I think had a satisfactory 2017, but awaiting updates on their intentions for 2018.
Rally/ Events for 2018 in which the club hopes to marshal on; 4th March Mid Wales stage rally, Newtown 11th March tour of Epynt mid Wales 17/18th March Agbo stages rally Weston Park 14th April 7 valley stages rally Mid Wales 21st April Horiba stages Mira Test Facility 29th July Harry Flatter Epynt ranges Mid Wales 8th July 1000 mile classic trail Wales 26th August Mewla Rally Epynt ranges Mid Wales 1st September Woodpecker stages, Ludlow 13/15th September Rally Isle of Man (Visit back to IOM for September 2018 is being arranged) 13/14th October Welsh Hill Climb Ralph’s Cider Farm, New Radnor, Wales 4-7th October Wales Rally GB Roger Albert Clark Rally (Date TBC)
For 2018 the marshalling section is to try a slightly different format, although they will attend some of the usual events, it is hoped to be more involved in classic trials run by HERO and classic car tours along with back to basic grassroots - road rallies.
New for 2018, Sunday 1st July Mystery Tour, ideal for all the family, starting & finishing at Halfpenny Green, with a cream tea, the route will be through the picturesque Shropshire countryside.

I am sure club members will be attending various car shows throughout year including; 23/25 March Restoration show NEC 6th May Ford Capri National Day, Evesham 17thJune Ford Mk1 Escort AVO day, Warwick
A visit to Shelsley Walsh hill climb circuit for a Breakfast morning.(Date TBC) Note; if anyone has an event, that they would like to share with club members, then please contact club secretary Mark Wakelam. markw4448@gmail.com
Membership, Dave Williams will be reminding you of membership renewal.
Due to changes within the club, membership updating did not run as smooth as it should for 2017 and unfortunately due to problems with publishers of club Magazine ‘Copper Wheel’ hence magazines could not be sent out to members.
Bob Hickman works very hard to put the magazines together, but publishing is out of his control. We will see what the outcome is for 2018.
