Wales Rally GB
A few pics from the Motor clubs marshalling on Wales Rally GB 27 OCTOBER 17 Members including Dave Williams, Paul Clackett , Mark Wakelam & Henry Adams, helped marshal the regroup and tyre zone area at Newtown Mid Wales.
This included Dave Williams and other marshals controlling the competitors arriving in to the main holding area of Broad Street, here competitors had time to get a break, talk to the press.
Dave and his helpers had their work cut out to make sure that only competitors were allowed in the restricted are meaning no members of the public, although everyone still could easily see the rally crews from the other side of the safety barriers .
Once competitors were released from the main regroup area they arrived at the large public carpark of Newtown, which for the day of the rally this carpark was closed to all except service and rally crews. Mark Wakelam, Paul Clackett and Henry Adams, had the task of controlling the entrance to this car park allowing only the authorised persons of the rally in, this was a case of trying to explain and be diplomatic to members of the public that the car park was closed and to direct them to other parking areas, easier said than done in some cases, especially as the time came to let tyre trucks, service crews in, control buses into the adjacent bus station, then finally to get competitors in without issues .
There was an army of marshals controlling the carpark area its self, but we did our small bit to support this prestigious event. It was a long day signing on at 7.0 am and finishing 4.30pm, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.
