West Midlands Police Course Angling Section
Come and Join Us !
West Midlands Police Coarse Angling Section (WMPCAS) is the place to be if you are interested in coarse fishing. The section boasts of members who are serving and retired officers, serving and retired staff members and serving and retired officers from neighbouring Forces. We all meet regularly, attending some top venues to compete against each other during club matches. There are around 28 to 33 members who enjoy fishing and competing at a friendly level, and on average we fish around ten club matches between April and November. For the hardy (or foolish), we also run a winter league consisting of seven or eight matches between November and March. The section gets numerous match invites from around the country and also runs an Interforce match where other forces/services are invited to compete in team matches hosted by us.
The section enjoys a healthy social aspect, with members meeting to fish during rest days and enjoying stop overs at some of the matches further away. We have also enjoyed considerable success during the 2015/2016 seasons, coming first and second in the PSUK National Championships in Wales, a feat never achieved before by any force before! Other successes include winning PSUK Regional Championships, runners up in a PSUK match in Yorkshire, and third in a PUSK invitation match in Essex and as recent as December 2016, the section won the annual West Mercia Police Invitational match on the B’ham and Worcs Canal at Stoke Works.
The section is very well respected within the UK and also represents the Region at the European Championships each year. In 2015 at Szeged in Hungary WMP was chosen to represent England. The team finished as runners up to the host nation with associate member Bill Rutherford winning the event individually.
There are lots of people out there who enjoy fishing as it is reportedly the biggest participant sport in the country. If there is anyone reading this that enjoys a bit of match fishing then why not come and try it out too.
The section has anglers of all abilities. They help each other to get better, have a good craic and banter, nothing is taken too seriously.
The first match of this season will be held on Thursday 16th March 2017 at Tunnel Barn Farm Shrewley Warwickshire, so if anyone is interested in joining the section, even if you just want to come along and have a taster before you make a decision, please do not hesitate to contact PC 6367 Andy Cleaver via his work e-mail, works phone 851 6001 or mobile 07879 685826.
