After the disruptive cold and snowy weather in early spring, our fly-fishing year had got off to a bit of a mixed start, but the visit to Eyebrook reservoir in Leicestershire well and truly got our members up and running with everyone enjoying big catches in pleasant Spring weather.
Eyebrook is a favourite with the fly-fishing section and hosts our ‘Pairs’ competition every Autumn, so this year we decided to visit earlier in the year to check out how it performed in the Spring… and it didn’t let us down. The reservoir was taken over by new management about a year ago and their new stocking policy has improved sport here considerably. That’s not to say it can’t be challenging of course. If you don’t search for the right spots and use the correct methods, then you could still struggle to find and catch fish, however many there are in there!
So, with everyone getting in on the action (well done Rachel for a personal best performance) it was a great way to get the section back on track again and enjoying the fishing in fine weather at a beautiful location. There was no pressure of competition today, but once some members got into the groove there was no stopping them and the instinct to catch more than everyone else kicked in! For others it was a time to chill out, relax and just enjoy the environment and some sedate fishing. Each to their own we say, there’s room enough for everyone in our section. Whatever you want from a day’s fishing – all are welcome!
At the end of a superb day’s fishing, some made their way home and some of us dropped in to a local pub for a bit of post-fishing banter, but I’m sure that everyone will agree that it had been another excellent day out with the West Midlands Police Fly-Fishing Section.
