This year, the annual Fly-Fishing section ‘Novices’ day’ became the Fly-Fishing ‘Open Day’ with an invite to all Sports and Wellbeing members, officers, employees, family and friends to come along to try their hand at fly-fishing at Fisherwick lakes in Staffordshire. Some came for the first time whilst others saw it as an opportunity to re-acquaint themselves with a sport they hadn’t participated in for a while.
We were fortunate to have the whole lake booked just for us, so we had the perfect location for newcomers to come along, relax, learn to cast and to even catch a fish or two… and they did! Fourteen visitors were welcomed by Steve Owen and the team and the earlier arrivals were even treated to a breakfast in the lodge. Guests were given casting lessons on the grass first, then supervised by section members as they cast out to try their luck. Many found that it was not as easy as it looks, but some were rewarded with their first ever fish on rod and line.
It was probably the most successful open day held by the Fly-fishing section to date and we hope that it will bring about new members to our very friendly and sociable group. Whatever you want from a day’s fishing, from competition angling to a relaxing day on the water, the section’s doors are open to all. Interested? Just contact our secretary Steve Owen at Park Lane Transport or call him on 07974 417885 for more details.
We hope to hear from you soon.
Tight lines!
