On Wednesday 16th March 10 runners representing WMP travelled to Humberside to compete in the PSUK championships. The team travelled to Normandy Hall Country Park, Scunthorpe to compete against 250 men and women representing forces across the country.
The course was fairly flat but was very technical with multi-terrain including the water obstacle which was waist high and sand.
The main race was won by Andrew Miles from Chesire with defending champion Martin Williams from WMP close behind in 3rd place. He was chased down by Owen Grant and Jason Bennett also from WMP who also had strong races and finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Along with the three top ten finishers other men crossed the line to help WMP claim the team prize. With the combined places of six runners counting towards the title, all finished within the first 37 places of the 158 finishers.
Congratulations to Martin Williams (3rd), Owen Grant (4th), Jason Bennett (5th), David Wilson (13th ) Nigel Gaskin (19th) and Stu Parker (37th).
And the success didn’t end there. Our men’s veteran team also took first place thanks to the efforts of Martin, David and Nigel.
Team manager Stu Parker was over the moon with the performances and very proud of the whole team especially as the team was decimated by injury and illness. He’s also keen to hear from any runners who wish to join the team, particularly the ladies who unfortunately had no runners this time around. The section is all about inclusivity and having fun regardless of ability. We are a team after all and the party afterwards is a testament to that.
They also compete in road races over distances from 10 miles to marathons.
